training updates

Training has been going well.

I have been spending my time between work, sorting equipment, running half marathons per day and sleeping (a lot!). Its taken its toll slightly on my left achillies heel, which is a bit tender, but nothing at this stage to worry about. Some ice packs and stretches will see it back to normal for the start. And of course, the help of my mother, who is annoying work colleagues and physio's by asking hundereds of questions per day.

Had a great call with my dad and mum last night, and my dad is, at least for some of the time, coming up and driving his mobile home alongside of me (he is well aware of the fact he is not physically allowed to help me). He just wants me to be safe and be there as backup incase anything goes wrong. Both of their support means a lot to me.

My plan for this weekend is to collect the last of the supplies I require, go back again through all the equipment checking that it will last for the job, and that I have reduced the weight as much as humanly possible. (cutting labels out of clothes, reducing packaging, taking only the bare minimum required etc).

And, dont forget there is still time to sponsor me......heres the link

motivation picture for the day

choosing running shoes for the run....

Decided on trying something new - I already have lots of asics trainers, and also inov8's played with Nike (they look nice but don't do the job), and now have decided to give these bad boys a go...

Saucony pro grid 6's under half price (RRP 100 quid) - now at 49.99 so a bit of a bargain. I went into my local running shop and tried them on first with having my gait analysed so knew these were the ones I wanted - never buy running shoes on line without knowing what you are buying.

lets hope they perform like i expect them too...

Checking the food

I still have lots to buy but just sorting through the food for the journey makes me realise what sort of task is ahead. My gps recording system says I am using around 1700 calories per half marathon, and my daily intake here is around 2000 - so where will I get the other calories from? If I carry too much more, I won't be able to run, but if I don't carry any more I will starve....

Training runs....

Last night I tried with a 15kg pack on, to do a half marathon, just to see how much the pack would slow me down. It was a lot harder than I thought, and became a slog instead of a jog, but actually, I quite enjoyed it. Now to get under the two hour mark with a pack....
